At first, I was shopping online looking for a good Christian gift. Unfortunately, I couldn't find much beyond the most bland and generic mass produced t-shirts or coffee mugs with Bible quotes. It made me sad to realize there is such a lack of genuine and meaningful Christian gifts online that have legitimate basis in the Bible. I knew I had to come up with a good gift idea, but I couldn't yet think what it could be.
The true inspiration for Scent of Solomon came from, of course, the Holy Bible. I was reading chapter 4 of Song of Solomon and was feeling particularly moved by the poetry of the verse. The author then began to incorporate metaphors relating to fragrance into the scripture and proceeded to list the aromas that were most highly prized and revered at the time (Song of Solomon 4:14). While reading, I wished that I could have an assortment of these scents to know what each of them smelled like so that I could more deeply relate to the words on the page. It was here that I had my aha moment and is why I decided to name my company after that specific verse.
Yes. We do our best to source our oils from the most reputable and high quality sources possible. We never dilute or cut our oils with synthetic fragrance or any other substance.
There are dozens of different ways to incorporate essential oil into your life! The most common way to use them is by adding a few drops to a diffuser and allowing the calming fragrance to fill your space. Personally, I like to add essential oils into nearly all my soaps, lotions, creams, conditioners, etc., or into my bathwater. I also go to bed with a few drops on my pillow which makes nighttime so much more pleasant and helps me sleep. There are many uses beyond this, but these are my favorite.
Regardless of skin sensitivity, it is recommended that any essential oil be diluted in a neutral carrier oil (such as jojoba, coconut, almond, etc.) or other skincare product like lotion before applying to the skin. Even then, you should perform a patch test on a smaller portion of skin before covering the rest of yourself with the oil. Remember, our essential oils are extremely concentrated and you never know how you might react to any new plant compound.
This is definitely an important question to ask! As a Christian, it is natural to be somewhat skeptical and weary of essential oils, especially because of their perceived association with new age practices. Others may attempt to use oils as a sort of spiritual crutch, expecting them to work as a method of enhancing their connection to God, a role that I believe to be reserved for the Holy Spirit. But, just because others may use essential oils in ways that are wrong does not mean that we as Christians cannot use oils in ways that are right. The use of natural fragrances are supported again and again throughout the Bible-- so much so that I was able to create a whole store of only scripturally supported aromas! Biblical figures from King Solomon to Jesus Himself used precious fragrant oils, so there's no reason you shouldn't be able to as well. I view essential oils as a miraculous gift of God which are here for us to use for the various physical properties He has endowed upon them (Psalm 104). Just make sure you are using your oils in accordance with the Bible and there is no need to reject the benefits and joy they can bring you!
