Hello, and welcome to Scent of Solomon!

My name is Laynie, and I created Scent of Solomon because many parts of the Bible were confusing to me.

There are many passages in the Bible that are difficult to understand. Not only is the language archaic and abstract, but it frequently mentions items or substances I was not familiar with. What always  stood out to me most was the fragrance– aromatic oils, strong-smelling spices, and burning incense came up over and over and over again.

I knew these aromas were mentioned for a reason. But I had no idea what they were, what they smelled like, or what their true meanings were. I felt like I was missing the deeper meaning of the text. 

When I purchased and smelled the oils of the Bible for the first time, a few incredible things happened:

I gained important context. I was no longer reading verses about random fragrances I had never heard about. Each biblical oil had a uniquely delightful scent that was now familiar to me when reading about it. 

I immediately felt more immersed in scripture. I wasn’t just reading. I was engaging with the text with my senses and activating different parts of my brain, making the Word come to life. 

I felt a tangible connection to Biblical figures. One bottle held the very same fragrance that Jesus and the disciples smelled filling the house at Bethany. And another was the exact scent that perfumed the robes of Jesus as He walked out of the tomb. I had a real connection to them and what they experienced.

Bible study became more emotional and memorable. Scent is tied to emotional and memory centers in the brain. Using these essential oils while studying helped me to finally tie abstract symbols together, emotionally tie them into my life, and then remember everything after. This made Bible study far more enjoyable and effective. 

Today, the oils of scripture are an important part of my daily walk with God. I use them while reading the Bible, in prayer, and in daily habits like cleaning, laundry, and skin care as a way to bring scripture into the more menial parts of life.
